About Me

Picture
Quite a bit ago, I graduated from Missouri State University with a BFA in Ceramics and Drawing. After skipping around trying to have a 'grown up' job for a while; I finally started to do local art shows and taught at the Springfield Art Museum (it is a lovely place, and you should check it out!).

I started doing larger festival-type art shows in 2015, with a borrowed set-up and a cheap tent. Since then, I have sprung for a sturdier tent and made myself a much better display.

2019 was my first year making a full time go of it - and so far, thanks to community support - it has been excellent! (Though due to 2020 in general, there are no festivals.) I have also been working towards selling more online, and keeping myself motivated to actually post on social media.

The work that I make is all intended to be used, but I also want to make things that I enjoy. While I do make the same pattern over and over, I will retire a pattern when I get bored with it. I also enjoy playing around with combining the different patterns. Pretty much, I just have to keep myself busy and entertained.

Ceramics aside, I have two dogs and probably pay too much attention to my house plants. I recycle vehemently, and enjoy cooking from scratch.

And more importantly - the dogs!

Lily was my first (on my own) dog. She is a border collie mix, and therefor waaaaaay too smart for her own good. Generally, she will learn anything within 3 tries and I am always looking for ways to keep her entertained. She will roll her eyes at me and huff if I take too long on something, and she is not exceptional with strangers. So, pretty much, she is a perpetual teenager.  She has plenty of personality, and gets a wonderfully goofy look on her face when chased around the house. She loves to sneak up behind people and put her head between their legs.

She loves to play with other dogs, and can rebound from being exhausted within 5 minutes. That was wearing ME out, despite all best efforts to keep up. So I decided to foster to find her a buddy.

Which is how I wound up with Thatch. (That's the name he came with - it didn't seem right to change it.) He is mostly black lab, and very much a doofus. As he came from a rescue organization I have no idea of his background, but he is super sweet. All he wants out of life is to get pets. In the time that I have had him, he has finally learned how to chew on a chew toy and generally do dog things. He will run into things, then lick them to apologize. I have seen him trip over his own legs countless times. He grumbles like an old man settling into his favorite recliner, and loves to chase things in his sleep.

The two dogs get along great - Lily is the boss, and Thatch never wants to be separated from his sister. They will often sleep butt to butt, and if one is getting pets, the other will be rightupinthere in order to also be getting pets. While I am not too fond of being woken up as early as they want to wake up - they are pretty great.
